At the Altrusa International Conference in Puerto Rico in August, four UN/NGO Representatives gave a stellar performance
at a workshop on the Millenium Development Goals. These MDG's are basically to improve the lives of countless millions throughout
the world. Carole Lancaster MC'd the workshop with presentations by Margaret Stadler, Head Representative, Audrey Braver
and Julie Harrison Kleszczewski.
A film narrated by Michael Douglas gave background of the problems faced by peoples all over the globe: poverty, hunger,
armed conflict, disease, lack of education, and so forth.
The goal is to achieve the eight MDG's by 2015.
1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger.
2. Achieve universal primary education
3. Promote gender equality and empower women
4. Reduce child mortality under age 5 by 2/3's.
5. Improve maternal health
6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases.
7. Ensure environmental sustainability
8. Develop a global partnership for development.
