New York City Altrusans seek to improve the quality of life for people in our community by engaging in a variety of projects.

Anti-Malarial Bed Nets-- Through the Nothing But Nets Program of the United Nations Global Fund, we purchase and donate anti-malarial bed nets for families living in sub-Saharan Africa.  These bednets prevent malaria for up to three children and can be used without even a bed because they come with poles!
Solar Cookers--We purchase and donate Solar Cooker Stoves for Darfuri Refugee Camps in Iridimi, Sudan in cooperation with Jewish World Watch Solar Cooker Project. These clever boxes of foil can fix dinner in a few hours and help protect women not only from fires but eliminates the need for women to leave the safety of the camps to collect firewood further and further from their homes, providing protection for their little ones as well. .
Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen--provides over 1,000 meals daily to the homeless and hungry.  We enjoyed serving 1,200 and 1,400 meals for Make a Difference Day!
Altrusa Internatonal Foundation, Inc. We contribute funds annually to this endowment, grants program and disaster relief funds to help those suffering from disasters around the world.  In addition, many of our members are members of Club 21.
Hour Children--  We support programs for this independent agency that staffs in-prison nurseries for incarcerated mothers and their newborns.  We also have held baby showers; and provided Christmas presents for the children and their mothers.
UN Women--Altrusa International, Inc., of New York has participated in their Annual Walks to End Violence Against Women and encourage us all to wear orange on the 25th of each month and often to support the fight against violence against women.
Pajama Project: We provide new books for bedtime reading, and new pajamas for children in need and in shelters.
